Champagne On Ice
When Smooth Red arranged a corporate event to Champagne in the month of December we knew that our clients would have the bonus of seeing the city of Reims looking particularly magical, thanks to its pretty Christmas market displaying the best of French festive delights.
What we didn’t know was that they would also see it transformed in a matter of hours into a white wonderland. As the clients held their seminar and enjoyed lunch, the relentless snowfall left the city literally frozen. Taxis abandoned hope of going anywhere and turned off their phones, buses were nowhere to be seen and our poor chauffeur was stranded only a short drive away, waiting for a snow plough like so many others.
Smooth Red clients, however, are made of sterner stuff. Fortified by the thought of the Champagne extravanza awaiting them, they set out on foot to do battle with the elements en route to Champagne Pommery.
Safely inside the Champagne house, the group had a tour of the cellars before their aperitif and a highly entertaining display of sabrage of magnums of Pommery Brut Royal. Then on to dinner, a feast of gastronomy accompanied by Pommery Wintertime Blanc de Noirs, Pommery Grand Cru Vintage and Pommery Rosé for the dessert.
Although Reims awoke to snow the following morning, everyone returned safely to the UK and declared it a most enjoyable adventure through the snow.
