SmoothRed Harvest Experiences

It’s one of the most exciting times of the year for any viticulture aficionado worth their salt (we know you’re out there) – the end of August sees the northern hemisphere celebrate the harvest. Across the USA, Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Greece and beyond, vineyards will be at their busiest as they pluck the grapes from their vines and begin the wine-making process anew.

No matter when you travel, there’s always something incredible to see in the world’s wine regions – Christmas markets during winter, the unbeatable weather during summer, stuff like that – but if the ‘wine’ in ‘wine travel’ is what keeps you going, then September and October are flat-out the best months to visit. The vineyards are bustling with activity, the wine-making can be seen up close in earnest and there’s a special kind of novelty to knowing you’re present at the birth of the year’s produce.

Of course, we’ve got a plethora of specialist trips to take full advantage of the season. Head out to Tuscany, perhaps, to throw in a bit of gastronomic excellence with your harvest experience, or tread grapes along the Douro in Porto – or even try your own hand at wine blending in Bordeaux. These trips offer more than just a visit and a tour: they’re the chance to witness a truly special time of the year for wine-makers and the opportunity to get stuck in yourself. For obvious reasons, these experiences are only available until the end of October, so don’t hesitate – give us a call and we’ll help you get started on what we guarantee will be a truly special trip.
