What is your most memorable travel experience?

After enjoying a weekend of biking around some vineyards in Mendoza, I lost my wallet and passport. As the carnival in Argentina took place that weekend, the embassy in Buenos Aires was closed for a double bank holiday so I had to “freestyle” my way around the country for a week by bus, begging and borrowing (never stealing) to get from place to place. It’s not until you lose everything of value that you can truly relax, although all the logistics involved made it an experience I couldn’t recommend.

Which destination is next on your list?

I’m a huge fan of South African wines, from a lovely light Cinsault to a charming Chenin Blanc, I’d love to go and explore some of the vineyards for myself and maybe combine this with a safari which I’ve always wanted to do.

What is your favourite food and wine pairing?

Generally, I’m not too fussy when it comes to food pairings. A bacon sandwich with Riesling is fun. A more interesting question though is what’s the worst? Cabernet Sauvignon and Jelly Babies.
