More about Seville
Seville is the largest city in the Spanish Andalusian province. It is an elegant city with a diverse range of sights, landmarks, museums and churches. The city is rich with Moorish heritage and this is evident from the colourful buildings to the palaces.
Seville, a charming blend
In Seville you can find buildings from historic periods between the 12th and 16th century, showcasing Arab influences and Baroque, Renaissance and Neo-classical styles. In contrast, the city also boasts modern architecture such as the Setas de Sevilla (or Mushrooms of Sevilla). Gardens, shade and colours invite visitors to enjoy the great climate while admiring these landmarks.
The sights
You cannot miss a visit to the Alcázar Real de Sevilla, a Moorish palace complex which is still in use today by the Spanish King. The picturesque Palace boasts beautiful gardens, part of which are now Jardines de Murillo, a public park where to relax on mosaic benches under shady trees.
Other attractions include the Cathedral, built over the remnants of a Moorish mosque. Here you can see Columbus’ tomb, admire paintings by Goya and climb Giralda tower for panoramic views.
For colourful Andalusian tiles, head to Plaza de España, where each 52 benches represent all the Spanish provinces. For traditional art, visit the Fine Arts Museum and admire paintings by El Greco, Murillo, and Velázquez.
Flamenco
Flamenco is a dance and music typical of Spain, especially Andalusia. The Andalusian art form integrates singing, dancing and music. Many flamenco shows are given today in authentic tablaos, and you can even enjoy shows on streets and squares.
The district of Triana, also known for painted ceramics, is the heart of flamenco in the city. Here you will find the most authentic places to experience a show. You can also explore the history and traditions of this dance by visiting the Museo del Baile Flamenco in the centre of Seville.
Get on wheels
Thanks to the city’s extensive cycle paths and flat terrain, the city is perfectly suited for two-wheeled adventures. Why not enjoy a day out cycling from landmarks to museums?
Glide through the winding streets, take in the vibrant atmosphere, and discover the rich history and culture at your own pace. Whether it’s pedaling past the grandeur of the Cathedral, the lush gardens of Maria Luisa Park, or the lively district of Triana, each turn reveals more of the city’s charm.
