Day 1
A private driver will meet you upon arrival at Lyon airport and transport you to your hotel. Refresh after your journey, then head out for a wander around this vibrant French city.
With a reputation as the food capital of France, what better way to begin your stay in Lyon than with a gourmet meal? Tonight, you’re heading to Le Poêlon d’Or, a traditional Lyonnais bouchon offering a creative take on local cuisine.
Day 2
After breakfast, your private driver will collect you for a full-day chauffeured wine tour in the northern Rhône Valley. Today’s journey takes you through the prestigious Côte-Rôtie vineyards, renowned for their robust and elegant Syrah. Sample aromatic Viognier from Condrieu and visit Saint-Joseph to taste a different expression of Syrah, and meet a lesser-known but superb white blend of Marsanne and Roussanne.
You’ll visit a number of family-run vineyards including the state-of-the-art winery of Domaine Stéphane Ogier and Domaine de Corps de Loup. Lunch is a treat as you’re welcomed at the two-Michelin-starred La Pyramide, where classical French cuisine is served with contemporary flair.
Day 3
Today you have a free day to explore Lyon. Wander round the old town, Vieux Lyon, a Renaissance labyrinth where narrow, winding streets are lined with Renaissance and medieval buildings, and connected by secret passageways, traboules.
Treat your taste buds to a visit to Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse, Lyon’s indoor food market, which has acquired an almost mythic reputation. If you like, we can arrange for a gourmet tour of the city, which includes a visit to this famous covered market.
This is also a wonderful city for art lovers, whether you want to visit the excellent Musée des Beaux-Arts or take a guided tour around the city’s impressive street murals.
Day 4
Today’s wine tour takes you to two more DOCs in the northern Rhône Valley – Crozes-Hermitage and Hermitage. You’ll visit three wineries to tour their vineyards, witness first-hand their winemaking processes, and enjoy tutored tastings of their wines. These old and prestigious appellations produce full-bodied, complex Syrah, with Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne, the main whites.
We can design this day around the wineries you most want to visit, with options including Laurent Fayolle and the organic winemaker Laurent Habrard. Along the way, you’ll stop at the prestigious VINEUM Paul Jaboulet Elder for a gourmet lunch paired with exceptional wines from the estate.
Day 5
Your exploration of the wines and vineyards of the northern Rhône Valley draws to its conclusion today. If you’d like to extend your journey, ask us about combining this with a trip to the southern Rhône and the renowned appellation of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
