Trip details

Day 1

On arrival in Bucharest, relax with private transfers to your 4 star hotel in the heart of the city. Your first afternoon will be devoted to the Bucharest Historical Centre and Old Town with an English speaking guide.

Day 2

Discover the Dealu Mare Wine Region with your English speaking wine guide, stopping at a winery where you will learn the history of wine making in the Prahova region. During the day, visit two more wineries followed by tastings of the estates wines before returning to Bucharest. The evening is yours to explore Bucharest further.

Day 3

Depart from Bucharest for the mountains and the Prahova Valley Region, your first stop will be the Peles castle, the summer residence of kings of Romania, one of the nicest castles in Europe. It has 106 rooms, an imposing reception hall with fine ornaments of inlaid wood, a gallery of mirrors and a Florentine hall where one can admire splendid Murano chandeliers. Before spending the evening in Brasov, visit a winery which produces sparkling wines (time permitting).

Day 4

Today will be spent visiting the medieval sights in the Old Town of Brasov, visit Bran Castle, the controversial Dracula’s Castle with fairytale turrets and whitewashed walls, built on a cliff in 1377 by master masons of Brasov. In the afternoon, enjoy a tour of the Rasnov Fortress. Dinner will be served in a boutique wine bar in the heart of Brasov.

Day 5

Departing from Brasov, you will be taken to Sighisoara, enroute you will visit a fortified Church in Viscri, a UNESCO heritage site (it is down a 15km road in bad condition, but rest assured it is worth it!). Once you arrive and settle into your hotel in Sighisoara, your guide will take you on a walking tour of the old citadel, a UNESCO heritage site. One of the most beautifully preserved medieval towns in Europe, this town is the perfect place to rest for one evening.

Day 6

Today you will be visiting a winery in Jidvei, before travelling to your next destination Sibiu where you will stay the night. This city is one of the original seven Saxon fortified towns established in Transylvania in the 12th century to defend the Habsburg Empire from the threat of Ottoman invasion. Your guide will take you on a walking tour of the historical centre of Sibiu, visiting the central squares such as Huet Square, the Goldsmiths’ Square, the Arms Square, as well as exploring the narrow cosy streets which are guarded by the historical buildings and roofs with skylights known as the “the eyes of Sibiu”.

Day 7

Today, drive through the scenic valley of the river Olt before arriving at the Avincis Winery, a family manor reconditioned by architect Alexandru Beldiman, whilst maintaining it’s Brâncovenesc style influences from the beginning of the 20th century. Spend the afternoon, relaxing and rejuvenating yourself in the thermal waters of the Baile Govora spa resort. Stay one night in this spa resort.

Day 8

In the morning, return to dynamic and and energetic capital of Romania for one final night. Take a peak at the world’s heaviest building, Palace of the Parliament (aka the People’s House), with 1,100 rooms, 4,500 chandeliers and four underground levels, the scale of this property is particularly awe-inspiring! We suggest delighting in the luscious parkland Bucharest has to offer, and spending the evening in the old town – also called Lipscani after the main street that crosses the area – where you’ll find bars a plenty in this charismatic neighbourhood.

Day 9

Before flying home, spend one last morning soaking up the last of the atmosphere of “Little Paris of the Balkans” and visit some of the more significant sites of the revolution of 1989.
