At Smooth Red we are delighted to report yet again that we have received fantastic feedback from the clients who went on our wine tour to Burgundy. On this occasion we had no less than 36 wine lovers who enjoyed a three day trip which incorporated a brilliant wine tour of the famous Clos de Vougeot. The group enjoyed a vertical wine tasting of a number of different wine vintages from one of the most prestigious properties of the Vougeot vineyard…
This visit came about through our family connections with the estate, as Adams grandfather used to import the wine back in the 1950s and 1960s. In the 1968 price list of Herbert Stebbings and Sons, Clos Vougeot, Chateau de la Tour 1962 was offered for sale at 33 shillings and six pence!!!
Following on the footsteps of my father is how I did my first harvest at the famous Clos Vougeot property and enjoyed the experience so much, that I decided the wine trade was to be my vocation.
So when Adam asked me to include a wine tasting tour for his group of 36 wine lovers in the Cote d’Or, what could be better than going back to Clos de Vougeot? After all we do have the family history and connections with the famous Château Clos de Vougeot .
For all the wine enthusiasts reading this blog you should know that the wines from Château du Clos de Vougeot rank not only with those from Romanee, Chambertin and a few others from the Cote d’Or but possible even the whole of France.
Apart from this wonderful visit to Château du Clos de Vougeot the trip for our group included a very in depth tasting at one of the most respected négociant houses in the region, plus several Burgundian meals. On the last they the group enjoyed a fantastic wine tasting lunch at the cellars of an impressive wine estate in Beaujolais.
