China has now become the biggest market for Red Wine in the world
According to a recent survey carried out by IWSR, China has now become the biggest market for Red Wine in the world, with a total of 155 million 9 litre red wine cases sold during 2013; this compares to Frances 150 million and Italy third with 141 million. Apparently one reason for the large increase in sales is that the colour red is symbolic to wealth, power and good luck, therefore it is an obvious choice for business hospitality, another is that red is the national colour of China.
However whilst China imports quite a lot of wine, 80% of the wine consumed is produced domestically. Whilst at SmoothRed we mainly concentrate our wine tours around the famous vineyards of Europe, we would be delighted toput together a tour to the vineyards of China.
