This is based on a self-drive to the Loire Valley.
Self-drive to Saumur, and settle into your beautiful and romantic 18th century château, set in a 1.5 hectare park which features a heated swimming pool, a patio and traditional, French décor. In the afternoon, enjoy a wine tasting at a superb winery only a short walk from your chateau, the perfect way to start your trip in the Loire Valley.
Enjoy a full day private chauffeured wine experience visiting both “Anjou Noir” and “Anjou Blanc”. During the day you will discover the typical climate, soil and grape varieties like Chenin, Cabernet franc Pinot noir and Sauvignon to make Loire wines. In the morning, visit a wine estate located in the vicinity of Angers, “Anjou Noir’ and continue your morning with a wine tasting on a selection of wines from the estate. Relax with a picnic lunch and accompanying wines. In the afternoon, visit the “Anjou Blanc” vineyards, enjoy a tour of a wine estate located in the vicinity of Bourgueil, Chinon and Saumur, near the western border of the Touraine appellation – “tuffeau” limestone underground. Continue your day with a wine tasting on a selection of wines from the estate. In the afternoon, your guide will take you back to your accommodation.
After breakfast, meet with your guide for a second private day in the vineyards, understand the “méthode traditionnelle” similar to the Champagne making method for producing the Loire Valley sparkling wines. Following the tour, enjoy a tasting of the Loire Wines. Enjoy a traditional lunch in local restaurant with wines included. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided tour of a historical chateau such as Azay le Rideau, Chenonceau or Chambord for example. The guide will take you back to the accommodation in the late afternoon.
Depart from the Loire Valley, with own arrangements. We highly recommend a visit to the world famous Gardens of Villandry on your way home – please ask for details (not included). The Château of Villandry, in the Centre Val de Loire region, is a Renaissance château that is located at the heart of three levels of terraced gardens. It is the last of the great Renaissance châteaux to have been built on the banks of the Loire River. Although the estate is renowned for the harmony of its architecture, it is especially well-known for its gardens that spread across three terraces and combine aesthetics, diversity, and harmony.
