Located on a quiet, tree-lined square in the heart of historic Bayeux, Villa Lara is a contemporary, five-star hotel with a chic yet relaxed ambiance. Opened in 2012, this purpose-built hotel blends Époque-style furniture with a modern boutique vibe. Bayeux Cathedral, the Tapestry and the medieval half-timbered houses of the old town are within a few minutes’ walk, while the location is ideal for visiting the D-Day beaches.
The 28 guest rooms are spacious and luxurious with 19th century French replica furniture, plush fabrics, and subtle lighting. All rooms have elegant marble bathrooms and varying views of Bayeux Cathedral. For a truly luxurious stay, opt for the presidential suites in neighbouring Villa Augustine, a renovated former convent that now belongs to this hotel.
While there’s no onsite restaurant, Hotel Villa Lara serves a gourmet breakfast buffet to set you up for the day, with delicious fresh-baked pastries, Norman specialities and local products, including cheese, yoghurt and butter. The bar opens every evening, offering a relaxed spot for a pre or post-dinner drink.
Many of the decorative objects and artworks on display in the hotel are on sale in the hotel boutique. There’s also a small fitness centre allowing you to stay toned during your stay.
