Trip details

Day 1

Drive at leisure to the stunning region of Alsace where you will discover the beautiful city of Strasbourg with a great deal of architectural and historical heritage to admire. Stay three nights in a central 3* hotel. Your Alsace wine tour begins with a pre-dinner tasting, offering a range of the region’s four of the most prestigious wines along with cheeses and local delicacies.

Day 2

Your first full day begins with a visit to the Mittelbergheim region, famous for the Zotzenberg, Katelberg and Wiebelsberg Grand Crus. Here you will sample a variety of different grape varieties including Pinot Blanc, Sylvaner and Riesling. This is followed by a visit to Dambach la ville which is considered to be the heart of the Alsace wine region and home of the Grand Cru ‘Frankenstein’ as well as the world famous Riesling and Gewurztraminer. This includes a wine tasting in a ‘caveau’ – the name given to local wineries. You’ll be able to enjoy free time for lunch and to explore at your leisure before moving on to the medieval town of  Riquewihr region where Riesling is the dominant grape variety in addition to Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer and Muscat.

Day 3

Your third day includes a visit to the chocolate box town of Obernai; enjoy a walking tour, explore the winding streets, old houses with multi coloured tiles for which is so typical of this region. Stop for a wine tasting session in a local winery here before continuing along the wine route to a second caveau. This evening, perhaps visit one of the restaurants on our recommended dining list?

Day 4

On your final day in the city, stroll though the historical centre of Strasbourg- a classified UNESCO World Heritage Site, the first city in France to be so honoured. If you have not done it yet, visit the sandstone Gothic Cathedral with its famous astronomical clock.
